Optimizing operations of branch offices for a microfinance institution in Senegal

Duration: 6 monthS

location: Africa

Clients: USAID, Chemonics, RECEC

problem

RECEC is a women's savings and loan cooperative in Dakar, Senegal. In 2003 RECEC was undergoing a major reorganisation after its primary donor decided to discontinue its funding.

Impact

We led RECEC in a reorganisation to harmonise operations for 16 branch offices (28,000 members and over 2 million USD in savings and loans). This involved mapping out the processes and documenting the financial products of each branch office, streamlining their product offerings, and making recommendations on how to optimise operations.

Solution

In an attempt to survive, the board of RECEC decided to merge the operations of 16 independently run branch offices into one head office and standardise the financial products and processes.
