Building capabilities to incubate social businesses within a large multinational

Duration: 3 monthS

location: UK

Clients: Unilever, DFID

The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK’s work to end extreme poverty. The most recent figures show that 17 percent of people in the developing world still live at or below $1.25 a day.

We supported the design of an internal incubator to assist teams in developing their ideas into a viable commercial concept. In addition, we provided strategic guidance in structuring the social innovation program within the context of a large FMCG. It is wonderful to see more investment in social businesses within the core of the Unilever business where assets can be leveraged for scale.

The Transform Project is a joint collaboration between DFID and Unilever to improve the health and wellbeing of 100 million people in Africa and South Asia. Both organizations engage their global teams across Africa and South Asia in a collaborative process to identify commercially viable investments, provide capital, and deliver technical expertise and capacity building to support Transform.
